K-Gr 3 -Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones is back with four more first grade adventures. In "Junie B., First Grader: Cheater Pants", Junie B. learns about cheating when she copies May's homework to turn in to Mr. Scary. In "Junie B., First Grader: One Man Band", she' sidelined from the first grade kickball tournament after she injures her toe. When she's offered the role of cheerleader, Junie B. thinks it might be more fun to be part of the half-time show. "In Junie B., First Grader: Shipwrecked", Junie B. is tapped to play Christopher Columbus's fastest ship, the "Pinta", in the Parents' Night play. It's not smooth sailing for the class when a stomach virus hits. Finally, in "Junie B., First Grader: Boo -&I Mean It!"(all Random, 2003-04), Junie B. is afraid to go trick-or-treating when she hears, among other things, that real witches and monsters will be out and if she carves a pumpkin with sharp teeth, it will bite her feet. As always, Junie B. prevails, learning lessons and having fun along the way. Narrator Lana Quintal does a marvelous job of bringing the precocious Junie B. to life, capturing her enduring spirit and making listeners wish that they had a Junie B. in their lives. An excellent addition to any collection. -"Veronica Schwartz, Des Plaines Public Library, IL"
